During the long, hot, dog days of summer, what better way to cool off than floating along the Muskingum River.
Friends of Lower Muskingum River is planning the Mighty Muskingum River Raft Race to take place in conjunction with the 2nd annual Marietta Catfish Festival on the weekend of August 15 & 16.
The Marietta Catfish Festival will be held in Muskingum Park on Saturday August 16th at noon with exhibitors focused on the rivers, the natural resources and greening of our local economy. Live music will start at 5 pm and a lighted boat parade on the Muskingum River will start at 9 pm.
The Raft Race will be held on Sunday August 16 at 2 pm from the Indian Acres Boat Ramp to the Harmar Bridge. All rafts must be homemade, with no nautical parts allowed. Several categories will be open for competition including; 2 man crew, 3 man crew, youth (12 & up), most artistic, reduce-reuse-recycle, and modern marvel for the raft with the most ingenious form of locomotion.
"This could be a great team building opportunity or a summer project for the family," says Kristyn Robinson, FLMR Watershed Coordinator, " or even a way to promote your business or organization. It's just a good way to have some fun, be creative and get together to enjoy a day on the river."
For more information about the raft race, check our website www.muskingumriver.org to download the flyer with rules and registration form, or call the FLMR office at 374-4170.
