Non Native Invasive Species - Tree of Heaven

Now is the time to tackle that tree-of-heaven that is robbing the productivity and wildlife habitat from you and your land. The female trees will be obvious because of the large clusters of seeds throughout most of the winter. Once you see the compound leaf on it, you will quickly zero in on the male trees which have the same leaves and architecture.

Likely to be more common in areas of recently disturbed soil, they may have also infiltrated your woodland where they will replace and inhibit the growth of native hardwoods. Wind distributes the seeds - birds can't abide them so by harboring tree-of-heaven, you are chasing away your best natural insect-control assistants. Whether you call them tree-of-heaven or stink-tree, their effect on your land is the same. Just cutting does not take care of this Non-Native Invasive Species - they are prolific root sprouters and can form large clones. Cutting and then stump treatment is most effective.
